Lady of the Lamb
In Oxfordshire, the custom on Monday after Whitsuntide, is a competition of the maids to run after a lamb with their thumbs tied behind their backs. Whomever can take and hold the lamb with her mouth is the Lady of the Lamb. There is dancing and music and the following day the lamb is part baked, part boiled and part roasted. The Lady of the Lamb and her companions have the upper end of the table at the feast.
