Venting
So, venting. A little grossness ahead, but I have nowhere else to vent. You're my people.
I have an ingrown toenail, and it has obviously become infected. It's painful to touch, swollen and red on the bad side, etc. I have been keeping Neosporin on it after warm soaks, and double bandaging to keep it clean.
Decided that, despite going to Dr. Google first and being terrified by the in-office surgeries depicted, I needed to go to a podiatrist. Options in my area are limited. The first one's out of town for a week. The second one has a disconnected number. Finally, the third is really nice and is open to seeing me tomorrow. The only issue is that they needed a referral from my GP by the end of today for Medicaid to cover it. I could pay out of pocket otherwise, but that's $300+ and I'm on a SSI only budget due to my physical disability.
I figure this will be no problem, and true to my familial curse, I am incorrect. The GP will not provide a referral to the podiatrist because I haven't seen her in a while (she is my Medicaid assigned doctor, and that aside, I get my pain mgmt drugs from the University of Miami - I don't think there's much to fear from a podiatrist). So, the general conclusion seems to be that I now have to wait even longer, potentially get worse with something which *can* become serious, to see the GP when I could've been treated tomorrow and had this over with.
Grr.
