The christmas cactus was full of unopened blooms.

(72,300 posts)It was a beautiful old handmade pot.
Like the cake left out in the rain ... poor little flowers in the broken old pot ...
Mac Arthur's Park is melting in the dark
all the sweet green icing flowing down
someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
and I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooo!

(9,808 posts)I used to have a suicidal cactus. It was in a heavy pot up on a plant shelf, and from time to time, I'd come home from work or hear a crash in the middle of the night and find my cactus defenestrated. I finally figured out that the plant was top-heavy in the pot. When the soil was moist, all was well. If the plant got too dry, it would overbalance and fall off.
It's not that my cats wouldn't have checked to make sure we paid the gravity bill, because that's why the cactus lived on that shelf. It was the one place that no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't reach.
When it took one too many tumbles, I gave it away.

(72,300 posts)There were small dead branches on the ground out back this morning.
I've re-potted my problem child in a temporary home until I can find a perfect one. Something short and heavy. My on-line search was disappointing. Something will catch my attention before winter.
Thanks for the cute story about your cactus and the cats.

I walked around the house this morning to see if anything else was out of place.
It appears to have been a strong gust of wind that got under the rolling tray the terracotta pot was sitting on.
