Parody of Lorde's Royal
I'll keep adding videos to this thread, but feel free to do so yourself.

(1,508 posts)The problem is that I don't know any of these songs he's ripping, so it's less fun for me.

(46,317 posts)I like his originals, best.

(14,274 posts)He should have been over with "Another One Rides the Bus". Not content with music, he branched out into video. Then he began doing original songs. This guy is a genius of parody.
I have immense respect for Al. He is way more than a novelty act - he is a musical social commentator. He has remained vital while the acts he parodies crash and burn. In my eyes - he is "The King"!

(4,138 posts)(and of course, his innate talent for humor). Most musical comedy is really half-assed, with simple arrangements cheaply and quickly recorded. Al and his band take the time to really nail down the exact sound of the bands they parody.
Also, I've never been to any of his shows, but he has a reputation for putting on great concerts.

(56,828 posts)I said in another thread - the song & video that really launched him to stardom was "Eat It" - and that came out 30 years ago in 1984. That's an amazing career in the music industry when you go back even further to Another One Rides the Bus and My Bologna, as you said. 35 years in total, and still going strong.

(11,833 posts)Always have always will. Go glad he has a new album. I like his parodies even better than the original songs!

(26,044 posts)...by his "Word Crimes" (parody of "Blurred Lines" , where he sings "you write like a spastic"...? A friend of mine found that a really offensive case of mocking persons with a disability.

(39,343 posts)I'm tired of people searching for things to get offended about. I'm not saying you were in this case, but it seems that some people aren't happy unless they can find something to be outraged about. Life's too short to go around.
I doubt Al was trying to hurt anyone's feelings. He wasn't trying to hurt anyone with an eating disorder with his Eat It or Fat, I didn't get my feelings hurt by Living With a Hernia, nor was he out to hurt anyone's feelings with Dare To Be Stupid who might not make it into Mensa.
He's a comedian who sings happy, funny, lighthearted songs.
Coventina
(27,101 posts)I have a close relative with intractable epilepsy and the line didn't bother me at all.
It never even entered my consciousness that Yankovic was trying to hurt my family.
The song is poking fun at people too lazy to use correct grammar, not hurt those with physical disabilities.

(12,723 posts)Anyone remember Coolio? Yeah, thought so.
Kind of funny to get pissed about the parody when he "stole" the whole song from Stevie Wonder in the first place.
