I recorded it and finally got to watch it. Pretty good job at creating a creepy atmosphere, but it could end up being your run of the mill monster mini-series in the end.
But, it's from Guillermo Del Toro, so I'll have to give it a chance.

Just finished binge watching all 5 seasons of Fringe. Hung n there because of JJ Abrams.
Hemlock Grove? Not so much, I'm afraid.
How about you?

(56,828 posts)and, had not even heard of Hemlock Grove before you mentioned it. I don't have Netflix, so that may be why...
both look like they have (had) promise.

(12,723 posts)Probably would have been better if they ended after 4 but the last season was still pretty good even if it did not completely make sense. Great ending with just the right amount of sacrifice to make it deliciously bittersweet.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,605 posts)as long as it doesn't devolve into a gore-fest.

(20,176 posts)I didn't know that it was del Toro, that may make me give it one episode...but generally, the commercials aren't really giving me any impression that it's anything new or novel there. The cable-net new spring programs aren't really that interesting across the board...nothing is jumping out as must-watch between USA, FX, TNT, A&E, AMC, IFC, etc.
There are ways to do that kind of "alien virus" horror that are both novel and interesting...Helix succeeded for most of a season, though the last two episodes of the first season were a crapfest. (They clearly weren't planning on a pick-up, then got one and realized they had to jettison the expensive scenery/locale and 2/3 of the cast. Disappointing, I suspect they may have lost most or all the things that made it interesting in Season-1.)

(12,723 posts)One of my favorite novels is The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. Dick. I wonder if there is any meaning to the name or did they just borrow it randomly.

Separation
(1,975 posts)Before I decide whether or not I'm gonna keep up with it. I thought it was going to be a virus suspense horror type. Looks like it's just another vampire story. I dunno we will see.
Another show I've been watching is Dominion. It's pretty good, it's a continuation of the movie, Legion. Falling angels, end of man. Pretty good.

(21,925 posts)So far so good. The mere fact that I want to watch episode two says a lot, as I generally don't like most new series. I thought the acting, writing, directing and production values were pretty good, of feature film quality. The vampire looked pretty original, at least what brief glimpses I saw of it. That thing in the jar at the rear of the pawnbroker's shop was bizarre. The autopsy scenes with the white stuff oozing out of the corpses was very creepy and I found those thin, snake-like worms that spread the "strain" to be horrific.
