See "Snowpiercer." Seriously, it's among the all-time great SciFi movies

Harvey Weinstein is a jackass. Really. He's keeping one of the all-time great science fiction movies hidden all because he thinks the good people of Oklahoma and Idaho won't appreciate it, or some bullshit. I'd have to think Oklahomans and Idahoans should be offended by the fact that a Hollywood bigwig thinks they can't handle violent science fiction.

I saw "Snowpiercer" last night on Amazon Instant. It's the one place you can see it if you don't live in a big city and away from the art house theaters. It's about a group of survivors stuck on a train that's perpetually traveling around the globe while Earth is in a deep ice age. The rich get the ornate cars at the front of the train. The poor get the squalid cars at the back. This is about the poor revolting against the rich and fighting their way to the front.

It's brilliantly done and beautifully shot. A group calmly eats sushi while shots of a frozen, destroyed city pass by in the background. A girl looks up in wonder as a stingray glides overhead in the aquarium car. Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton are nearly unrecognizable as the hero and villain, respectively. I won't spoil who plays the main villain and owner of the train, but this person plays it brilliantly.

It is a very violent and bloody movie, so it's definitely not for kids, but it's not over done. And like other great movies, it knows when to shut up (or turn off the violence) and enjoy the view.

See it now and see it again. I wasn't thrilled about the movies coming out this year, but Snowpiercer may have single-handedly saved 2014 in the movies.

It will not be opening in a theater near me ever (screw you Harvey) and I want to support the concept of VOD concurrent with theatrical and what better film to start with. Amazon, as you know, has it for 6.99 and since two of us will watch and the popcorn is free and nobody will be talking, texting, or fornicating during the movie I expect a superior experience.

I will probably buy the Blu Ray too. Love the director and expect to really love this.
