I think I'm a little in shock. They liked me and I didn't do anything wrong but my job doesn't exist anymore. My company doesn't need anyone for this job anymore. I have been working two jobs so I still have another job but I don't make enough at the one job to make ends meet. I guess I will be revamping my resume and job searching this weekend.

(9,899 posts)I'm a trucker moving mostly foodstuffs across the country. Most of what I move is refrigerated, but my company also hauls relatively short regional runs for industrial manufacturers in the midwestern states.
I just finished a run for a customer that distributes industrial cables and wires to small to medium manufacturers.
The first thing I noticed was that they had hired roughly twice as many people, and were shipping more freight per shipment. On the delivery side I noticed that the receivers also had hired more manufacturing staff, and that kid unloading my truck said that they were a lot busier.
While this is incidental, I have been running between that shipper and it's customers for nearly two years and this was the biggest jump in production, and personnel in that period.

(45,404 posts)I start next week but I'm already in the referral system to give them resumes of anyone else who wants to apply.
The BLS numbers are not just made up. The economy is growing and creating jobs. People are retiring. Companies are hiring.

(4,851 posts)We are interviewing. Its been 6 years since we expanded our staff. We are gettign more work in and we need to staff up to handle it. Its a real good sign. Granted its a big company and its not like we are doubling in size, but two more good jobs with benefits is good news. Its slow, but hopefully it will keep getting better.

So far, every time I've been kicked to the curb (and it's happened more than once), I've ended up in a better position than when I started.
There is something refreshing, and invigorating, and liberating about starting over fresh, meeting new people, and embracing new opportunities.
It is frightening, I know...
But at this point, what have you got to lose?

(7,499 posts)So many of my friends have been in the same position and have been victims of RIF (reduction in force). It sucks, and people who have been stellar in their jobs are finding themselves out of work. I hate this new world order. It is so wrong that good people are cast aside.
That said, I wish you the very best and will be sending positive vibes your way. Stay strong.

(3,275 posts)I think that this will give me a chance to go after what I really want to be doing. I was working full-time during the week and part time every weekend. It was getting a little crazy working every day. Maybe I can find a job that pays enough so I can only work one job. I will be all right.

(5,756 posts)I lost my former job to a massive re-organization at my former corporation. I didn't do anything wrong. I had very strong annual reviews. All of them above average.
It was like someone put a dagger in my heart after having given my all to the corporation for over 10 years. I was just caught in the wave of cuts.
After the re-org my position no longer existed on the org-chart. So I know how you feel. I really know how you feel.
My best advice is, take a few breathes. Cry a bit if you wish.
Then, while you are still fresh from the cuts get yourself out there and apply for as many jobs for which you are qualified. As painful as this time might be you need to get yourself out there and represented. The hiring managers and recruiters will know that you got caught up in some sort of re-vamp. You need to use that while you can as a reason why you are on the market.
Best regards!

(7,699 posts)I lost one job at which I made not-really sustainable wages and had been working two jobs for a long time.
Within one week of notice that I had only two weeks left to work, I was hired by another new company.
Within one year there as an Assistant Manager, I was promoted to General Manager of the store I was in...
the largest store in the chain whose profits kept all the other stores open. Within one year of that I was
promoted to District Manager.
Wishing you the best!

(19,558 posts)Since I'm not brilliant this is the best I can do. I've been there and things did get better. Eventually they got a lot better, as in better than they were before because my job may have fed me, but it didn't suit me.
I'm wishing you a lot better in your future. We all deserve that in life.
