mostly from reading "anthropomorphic" comics back in the 1990s and learning of the Furry scene back then. People spend a lot of money on "fursuits" whether for cosplay conventions or pleasure (or both)

I think I saw a CSI episode or something about them. That's the extent of my knowledge though. I didn't know of any specialized vocabulary.

I don't think polyester plushie fabric would be nearly so cuddlesome as a puppy though.

Although fantasy does factor heavily into much of it. If you know what the real fur of any particular animal is like, the imagination can take care of the rest.

I heard about the CSI episode, and then the anger in the fandom from how they were presented. There were even some threads about it in The Lounge back the day, and not much fun for anyone on the receiving end so to speak...
