Half of you probably don't even know who I am - 11,000+ posts notwithstanding - but I thought I'd share a pretty big milestone in my life with the good folks of DU.
And here's a song, just because I couldn't stop thinking about it all day:
"Lather was 30 years old today, they took away all of his toys..."

(13,324 posts)and I have (I hope) at least 40 more years of living on this planet in reasonably decent health - I drink moderately, don't smoke cigarettes, do smoke pot, and I've cut my red meat consumption down to 3 times a month or so.
That said, I can still feel my youth slipping away...

Great song, by the way, Lather.
Now I listened to that in Junior High School!
After Airplane became Starship, ewww, a group called KBC came along (Kantner, Balin, and Casady) came along and restored the spirit of Jefferson Airplane.
This is for you, Happy Birthday!

(3,208 posts)I see this was posted yesterday, and that was my birthday, too. I am 50. While my body is certainly showing years of some heavy duty use, I don't think youth is really slipping away because we can always remember all of our other ages. Okay, sometimes the memories are a bit hard to conger up, but they are there, and they helped make us who we are today!
My stomach has recently decided it no longer wants red meat, but that's not really a great loss. It's better for the planet as well!

(13,324 posts)it won't necessarily be easy to keep my weight down in later years. Hence why I hope I manage to stick with the dietary changes I've made in the last couple years. I still eat too much sugar (and maybe a little too much salt at times) but I've cut most of the red meat and other fattening stuff out of my diet - I went from eating fast food twice a week (or more) to eating it a couple times a month. Yay me, I guess?

(34,049 posts)i see you're feeling the time pinch. here's some advice:
be happy, create joy for yourself & others, make a positive difference (big or little) in the lives of others, and love. love as much as you can.
you have 1 year until the next go-around. make it an outstanding one.

(13,324 posts)I know it's unlikely, but I keep hoping I'll somehow strike it rich as a fiction writer. But I just don't write that kind of stuff, and my heart wouldn't be in it if I did (and readers can usually tell these things).

(2,256 posts)You also have my condolences. I'm 32 and it seems like after I hit 30, my body just fell apart. Good luck!
