lovemydog
(11,833 posts)as it was exactly what I was feeling. You seem like a great guy NYC_SKP. Just wanted to thank you for the post re: Obama & FDR.
Thanks! Imagine what Obama could do if we had a Democratic congress like FDR!
BTW, I lovemydog, too!
Millie is her name.
Yes, if we had a Democratic Congress like FDR we'd have recovered from the awful recession much sooner. We'd also be closer to single-payer health care.
My dog's name was Angelina. Angie for short. Not long after I created my username she passed away. She was part aussie shepherd & part blue healer. A great companion.
I love all kinds of animals. Especially dogs & horses & whales.
Have a great weekend.

(12,153 posts)today, on my 71st birthday! Yay me for surviving this long!
Mr. froggy and I had just returned from lunch at Pizza Hut, and Ty, who has SAD, was so happy to see me, he jumped right into my arms. Mr. froggy got a kick out of it and snapped a pic.
KMOD
(7,906 posts)It's been a good one. My kids and grandkids called, and even my 3-year-old great-granddaughter wished me a happy birthday over the phone. Plus, I had pizza for lunch.
It sounds like you had a wonderful birthday.

Your pic doesn't look bad, either.

(11,833 posts)I've really enjoyed many of your recent posts re: Ferguson and all those things. Appreciate your perspective & sense of humor too. Have a good weekend. (Maybe the Raiders will even put some points on the board, lol). My best friend is a Raiders fan & I'm a Jets fan. We laugh at which team is worse. They should rise again. Raiders and Jets both have great histories. I hope I live to see the day when they are both good again!
Jamaal510
(10,893 posts)liked my posts, and yeah...hopefully both teams cease their periods of ineptitude. It gets boring seeing the Patriots win the AFC East almost all the time, and being a Raiders fan has been especially tough not only because of how long they've been irrelevant, but also having to listen to fans of other teams (e.g. Broncos, Chargers, and 49ers fans) pick fights and talk trash online.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)should be in there battling. I keep dreaming that it will happen but it seems so far from any hope at this point. I mean look at these quarterbacks they had (Palmer and Sanchez) who go on and do well at other teams. That pisses me off, lol. Ah well, I still enjoy it all.
Have a great weekend. I'm going to a big rally tomorrow in New Mexico to oppose police violence. We've had serious problems with it here. As everywhere around the country. I will also be with the marchers in Washington, in spirit!

(53,339 posts)I'm on the right, at the groundbreaking for a home for a wounded warrior in my community. Next to me is the high school teacher whose students created the project and raised the funds to provide a home for the Iraq War vet and his caregivers.

lovemydog
(11,833 posts)Keep on sticking up for veterans!
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)But I'm only a tiny cog here. I recently turned down an award because others deserved it much more than I. Fittingly, the award went to Mike, the guy on the other side of the teacher in the photo. One of my best friends and a brother I admire for all he does for vets here.
Mike does a hell of a lot more than I do, and I was happy to see his outstanding work recognized. And, though we didn't know it until we met many years later, Mike and I were brothers who served in different battalions of the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam at the same time. I saw him tonight at a fundraiser for a local wounded warrior, and we had a bit of fun ragging on each other. All in good fun among guys who truly love each other.
His name is Mike Bertell, and he's the one who deserves the accolades, not me.
As for warmth and humor, I think that is something I learned, ironically, from my war experience. To cherish the humanity of ourselves and others and enjoy sharing the humor we find in life. We have a lot of DUers here who get it, and try, apart from serious contributions to discussions, to keep the fun alive. I'm just proud to be among them.

I gave up long ago on posting only the flattering pics, so here's one more, also from May this year, with me looking like a doofus.
