What is the world's greatest food?

I have had a good portion of the world's foods. Not all, but a lot. Who knew that Indonesian chicken soup could be so good?

Anyway, I think there is one dish that is the best. It is made in a huge variety of ways but usually awesome.

That dish? Pizza.

Discuss.

Virgin boy eggs or tong zi dan are a traditional delicacy of Dongyang, China made by cooking eggs in urine collected from young boys.

Um...no thank you. I'll pass on those. And Balut as well.

Otherwise, I love eggs too!

You need carne asada meat, marinara sauce and Mozzarella cheese.

Cook the meat, and season to your preference.

Get an oven-proof pan and layer as follows:
sauce
meat
cheese
sauce
meat
cheese...

last layer is cheese.

Put under the oven until the cheese browns.

They call it "back bacon".

What better way to get a sense of a place then through local food, like the fried grasshoppers pictured here?

For the Mexican food lover, Oaxaca, the city of 7 moles, is your town. The markets are pure magic, especially for those brave enough to nibble everything. (Sometimes I did, sometimes not.)

The Abastos market is impressively huge, endless in fact, even for a market tourist like myself. And all the markets were packed with regional goodies: pyramids of fried grasshoppers with lime; counters teaming with ready-to-stew chickens, their feet sticking out over the counter; vats of mole fixings as well as red, green, yellow and black glistening mole pastes ready to reconstitute; feisty roosters flipped over by their feet before sale; ice cream in every flavor, from walnut to prickly pear, spinning on ice in long metal pails; and chilies, fresh and dry in endless sizes, aromas and shapes — smoky, mild, fat and rich, tiny and ca boom!

I walked it for a couple of hours, then went to a nearby cantina for pulque with the locals while my girlfriend kept shopping.
We stayed at a cool hotel with a bougainvillea covered outdoor shower on the roof. The bus ride from Mexico City scared the shit out of me, but the next morning I awoke to the sound of street bands, the market was going, the zocalo was buzzing and the old, beautiful churches were everywhere. A great city.

I like it with black beans, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, tomatoes, and cheese. Other like it simply with cheese or loaded with meat. It is made to be shared at social events. It also makes a great comfort food when you are alone. It can also be made vegetarian or vegan.

That is my vote. Although everyone else's answer sound good. Maybe I'm just hungry.

It's delicious, spiced up, and goes with a ton of sides. It can be warm or cold, vegetarian or not, and is almost always good for you. It is my favorite dish, no competition. Pair with some good naan, yogurt, and a veggie dish, and it is heaven.

I'll give pizza a thumbs up here.

But it's gotta be Greek pizza or French Bread pizza.

Or basically any kind of pizza on a crust thicker than a piece of paper.

Thick. Doughy. Chewy. Dripping with sauce and covered in Mozzarella.

Oh, which reminds me

Lasagna

filled with cheese. Thick layers of Ricotta and Mozzarella
