Never paid attention to it or the comic strip before it, just THAT song which filtered down to my level like last year's "Let It Go" thing. Then a couple of years ago saw the scene with FDR and Eleanor and was smitten, but still didn't see the whole thing. Then yesterday I flicked it on briefly and the "We've Got Annie" number was on and that woman (I didn't know who) was totally smashing. Had to do some Googling to figure out who it was -- Bernadette PETERS, no -- and it was Ann REINKING, whose name I'd heard, nothing else. Wow, that flashy dancing was spectacular.
Now am seeing the criticism about racial stereotyping -- well, the comic strip was from the '30s!1 I doubt I'll see the Cameron DIAZ version, considering that I haven't even seen the majority of THIS version, and Carol BURNET has always given me a case of the undecided despite the fairly frequent bust-a-gut moments. (My elder sister said, "She's so ... vulgar." But Cameron ain't no Carol. Anyway, what a cast-- FINNEY, BURNETT, REINKING, Tim CURRY!1
Oh, and the last time I looked up things, the composer has quite the hits himself: Charles STROUSE

At the time I was trying to work, but ended up giving in and watching the movie. She couldn't stay interested in it and ended up going off and doing something else. Typical for her. When we are watching a movie together at home I tell her I'm going to staple her to the chair so she doesn't walk out for long periods of time to do other things.
