I know it's been talked about ad nauseam... but it's cold

here in the northern Atlanta suburbs we are hanging at 8F... for the uninitiated to the Fahrenheit scale... thats -13C. We don't like this stuff down here in the Sunny South. Second year in a row we've fallen to single digits here.

Dern weather.

told me to shut my pie-hole and that I could complain when we hit negative temps!

Howdy and good morning!

I work outside quite a bit for my job. Thankfully, I do not have to work today.

the wind chill is supposed to be -30 today. Schools are closed or opening late. I had a late meeting last night and was making my way home on the back country roads thinking that if I had an accident I wouldn't last 10 minutes in this weather. The talk show guy on the radio last night had folks calling in who were out working in this cold...one guy had been up on a roof fixing some sort of heating system. He said he was on call all night. I think we take some of these workers for granted. I want to thank all the people who are on emergency call on days and nights like this.

and people that work outside in this sort of stuff have my undying admiration. they do hard work in hard conditions so the rest of us can stay warm, get to work, have nice homes... so many things!

My husband knows I'm outta here if anything ever happens to him. I come alive in this weather.

Yesterday's walk was nice, my neighbor in her sweatshirt and parka and me in my t-shirt - but yeah it was 33. Today is just a little sliver of heaven if you ask me but I am a freak of nature.

These extended cold snaps really drain me.

I worked from 6:30 am - 9:30 am and I'm snuggled back in bed with all the dogs until I have to go back out again at 11:30 for midday chores. My feet are still cold even after 30 minutes under the down comforter...

This completely sucks!

and it dropped to the teens last night. Right now, it is 31 and dropping. Yes, it is cold, cold. I had 4 pipes break last winter. I moved here from Miami in 1989 and never had any pipes break before in the winter. My son was able to fix them. He came over last night, drained the pipes and turned off the water. Right now, I am unable to take a shower or flush my toilet. He said he did not want to hassle with replacing the pipes again. I have two buckets of water in the bathroom to flush the toilet with, a carton of bottled water and two big pitchers of water in the refrigerator. I may have to be without water until Saturday when hopefully it will warm up enough for the pipes not to freeze during the night.

Currently 73 degrees here with a high risk of rip currents. Surf 5-8 feet. Gotta be careful swimming at the beach today and tomorrow...
