George Psalmanazar

"George Psalmanazar" was born in France in 1679. He traveled to Scandinavia in 1700 and started a career of lies. He said he was from Formosa, claiming men walked around with only gold and silver plates covering their genitals. They ate snakes hunted with branches, and a man could have many wives and eat the unfaithful ones. He claimed 18,000 boys were sacrificed every year and priests ate their bodies. He wrote books and gave lectures. To keep up his exotic persona, he ate raw meat, slept upright in a chair, and worshiped the sun and moon. He confessed all these things were lies in 1706, but no one ever learned his real name.
