The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust so people know. My wife went to her first counseling session.
For those who think I am making my wife up or doing Performance art. My wife is real. I only wanted advise.
My wife won't place her view points on this view (political or otherwise) because she is TOO liberal for this boards liking and would probably be called a troll.
She Has inspire me often and I do love her. I quote her often on this board because I think she is one of the smartest people I have ever met and if I talk about her or give her views on this board it is because I think her views should be known IF nothing else.
For those who don't like this please place me on ignore.
Now that I dispense with that.
My wife felt this was her issue and felt she was getting depressed so she went to a counselor because she has had times where she got depressed but it never would get this bad when we had cats. She only ever sought help once--Before we got a cat and she was this level of depression.
my wife claims this is her issue. she "Need a swift kick in the head." She said she needs to fix herself and not me.
I will respect the fact that she needs to speak to someone alone first. I will got to couples counseling when she is ready. right now she is viewing this as her issue not our joint one.
I hope others understand what she is staying.
We also have requested the pet issue be looked at by the condo association again.

And, ignore the haters.
Put them on ignore.

(118,577 posts)in Ontario, Canada nobody can tell you whether or not you can have pets. Doesn't matter if you discussed it with the landlord and agreed not to own a cat or a dog. If you pay rent the apartment is your home and nobody can tell you otherwise. The real law is different than what the landlord would lead one to conclude. (This was so 20 years ago). Maybe the basic law is like that where you are.....that condo agreements regarding pets are not actually enforceable.

I've run into many situations like what you cite, where the real law is different than what the landlord would like you to believe. I've worked in real estate/landlord tenant law and I saw this often.

on edit: I was just watching a segment on Today Show and a travel expert told how airlines will tell you they are only responsible for up to $50 on lost luggage, but the travel expert said it is not true--up to $3400, as ruled by the Dept. of Transportation. Here we have another example of organizations lying. It pays to check these things out, regardless of what they say.

(4,033 posts)I believe that her Counselor would be able to write the order for a "therapy pet".

(3,121 posts)out of her...ie...she has to go to so many sessions. Keep your fingers cross. Right now we can only afford for her to go once a month...

(20,277 posts)Even if the condo board changes the pet rule, she should still continue with counseling.

(35,643 posts)You will find that it is a fact that cats offer health benefits, none the least of which they can pick up our moods.
I think you should read some of the links and pull out names of the studies, if the articles mention them. Cite them in your request to the condo association. If you've already put in your request, send what's called an "addendum" to your previously sent document.
If you need to locate some through scholarly journals, let me know, as I'm a college teacher and have access to the databases. I will look them up for you if you let me know the name of the journal and a little information on either title or journal author.
Thanks for updating us. I was wondering how this issue was coming along.

(3,818 posts)Hoping and praying for a good outcome for both of you. Good for her for being pro-active about the situation and seeking counseling. I understand about the cat part, I would find it hard to live without cats too. I hope the condo association reconsiders. (((HUGS)))

THAT would be a troll?
No
.
THAT would be welcomed so that the other trolls on this board would have one more liberal with which to deal.
P.S. I would be less without my cats.

(46,192 posts)it appears DU may be too liberal for her.
just judging by what you said were her feelings about welfare.
