Computer professionals: would it be possible to learn your job online?

I mean, for example, doing Khan Academy courses exclusively?

I know in the 90's, I was acquainted with programmers who told me that all you really needed to do was get a Visual Basic book, read through, study it, and voila, you'd get your certification. Obviously, that was eons ago, but I'm curious if you believe for a bright person, it would be that easy now?

You cannot master your role with online learning, but it doesn't hurt. Yavin4 Jan 2015 #1
Unless you're a 65 year old mainframe programmer like me, ready to retire who never learned HERVEPA Jan 2015 #2

If you want a career as a programmer, you have to study and practice constantly. There are always new things to learn and master. What you learned 15 years ago may not be relevant today, but it does create a building block to learn other things in the future.

My advice, get use to learning and practicing from multiple sources.
