The last one I saw (Tuesday's) kind of dragged on, especially without an interview segment.

(2,302 posts)It's an interesting cross between a talk show format and the panel-discussion show...reminds me of Maher's show a bit in that it's treading the line between humor and serious discussion. I like Larry Wilmore and I'm happy to have a slightly different perspective on things (black).

(53,235 posts)I liked the former Obama speechwriter who said that many pols behind the scenes are "broken garbage people." He even called them worse, but I can't remember now.
The one thing I didn't like was that Larry had a goddam conservative on the panel. I'm so sick of those assholes on TV.

I think he was a staff writer as well.

(11,785 posts)It's not a one-for-one replacement for Colbert, but then it's not meant to be, either. It's not your usual panel discussion show, either. I like it, so far.

(8,401 posts)I like his commentary and the show is ok, I don't find it must watch like I do the Daily Show and I did for Colbert.
I feel like if Stewart were leaving the Daily Show Wilmore would've been an excellent successor. He fits well into that style and would bring in own style and make it special.
I remember when I first heard Colbert was getting a show I didn't expect to watch it much thinking it would just be more of the same, as the Daily Show. Colbert did something exciting. The Nightly Show feels like an extension of the Daily Show.

(28,394 posts)The opening monologue is the best part though. The game show bit at the end isn't worth staying up for, IMO.

(9,999 posts)Beyond that, I think we all need to give him and his show time to hone its strengths and weaknesses. I think it will only get better if we all give it a chance.

(35,284 posts)the writing is very good and Larry Wilmore makes a great host - they just need more segments
they shouldn't do that same format every night

(18,421 posts)I liken the experience so far to Jimmy Fallon. It takes a while to get a following and a few solid ideas behind your show. I'll check it out again in a month or two and see.
The opposite was of course Stephen Colbert, who was a cult classic nearly from day one. I remember watching the first episode and it quickly becoming a nightly thing.

(38,613 posts)I didn't like Colbert at first either. It took me a few episodes, but both shows grew on me
