The NFL will probably supply game balls next year

Brady was one of the instigators of the "each team provides its own footballs" rule, and this is how his team repays the league?

My feeling is, next season Wilson will be directed to ship 24 "lightly scuffed" (throw 24 balls and 1000 lbs sand in a cement mixer and tumble for five minutes) balls to each game under the same shipping regime as kicking balls are shipped, and both sides will use the same ball.

1. I was astonished to learn that the NFL DIDN'T supply game balls!

I'm hardly a football expert…and I certainly had no idea how delicate the proper aeration (or whatever) for an official football is…but, good grief! OF COURSE the balls should come from a single, unimpeachable source!!!!!!

3. If the officials would keep control

of the damned things after inspection it would fix the entire problem. But no they check the balls and give them back to the team, thereby indemnifying themselves of any criticism if anything goes wrong.

What they should do is take the balls from the teams, fill them to the required (preferred) level and provide one guy on each sideline to hand the balls out to the on field officials that handle them and are supposed to figure out if everything is cool prior to each play. No that would be too easy and actually make sense.

This is truly fucking idiotic. The officials go through all these hoops to make sure the balls (heh, heh I said balls ain't it funny... I weep for our Nation) meet spec and then hand them back to the teams for the game. If you're going to make rules about the damned air pressure at least make sure you have control of the damned air pressure.

When I take my son's Scout Pinewood Derby car into the competition they weigh it, measure it and impound it as soon as it's considered legal. I, and my son, can't touch the damned thing until the end of the race.
