Thanks lame54. It does make some good points. Excellent how it started with Kubrick quote that the movie is open to various interpretations. This one makes sense. Haven't read the book by Arthur C. Clarke.

I'm a big Kubrick fan. These filmmakers clearly are as well.

and pretty much disagreed with all points made.

I understood the movie better after I read Clarke's book of it, even though he didn't write it until after the movie was made. Or maybe released it after, and wrote it during the production. Either way, there are far more answers in his version of the story, while Kubrick's film is more like a work of art than a story.

When I first saw your post, I thought "I already know what 2001 means. How about an explanation of "Solyaris" instead?" However, I don't think I'd want it from the group that made this video. Just my opinion

having to learn to walk - eating baby food - potty training

foreshadowing for the star-baby

I've only seen it once many years ago - but now want to watch it again

I've tried to watch it 3 or 4 times, but each time I've nodded off before the film ended.

about 2 and a half hours

Sorry .its about the birth of tool making then flashes to space to meet maybe the creators of life or something like that, hard to explain because it means different things to everyone and is boring to many people too .

You either like it ,love it or are bored shitless from it.The last 20 minutes are what used to be called
a Trip =it was 1968 .

instead of that cheesy flash illustration which only conveys general information...

Still, if "2001" is still being shown to high schoolers, this is a decent guide for first-timers...
