3. National Clam Chowder Day

From Betty MacDonald's "Onions in the Stew":

"A good recipe for a quick delicious Clam Chowder which we have evolved over the years is: At least four cups of butter clams cut out of the shell and washed thoroughly. Grind with the clams:
1 green pepper
1 bunch of green onions
6 slices of bacon
2 large peeled potatoes
1 bunch parsley
Put everything in a large kettle, add one cube of butter and enough water to cover. Cook slowly until the potatoes are done. Add two or three large cans of milk, salt and coarse ground pepper to taste. Serve, as soon as the milk is hot, with buttered toast."
