David Copperfield’s Swimming Pool Floods Entire High-Rise Apartment Building
The swimming pool above David Copperfield’s penthouse in New York flooded his entire luxury apartment building earlier this month after a pump malfunctioned. Water wound up damaging apartments more than 30 floors below the famed illusionist’s, drenching walls and floors and temporarily disabling the property’s elevators.
Copperfield was performing in Las Vegas at the time of the incident. His four-story residence in Manhattan is filled with pricey antiques and art, most of which seem to have been spared by the water damage. It’s not clear how much total damage was done to his neighbors’ property, but an attorney for Copperfield acknowledges that litigation could be forthcoming.
“The insurance company has been notified. This is New York City, so nothing would surprise us,” the lawyer tells the New York Post. “The pool will be refilled, but first we have to make sure that there are fail-safe measures put into place to make sure this doesn’t happen again.” Copperfield bought the residence for more than $7 million back in 1997. He has not yet commented on the pool accident. Gossip Cop will have updates.
