"The Aloha Vet" has died

I just discovered his show on National Geographic Wild Channel (Nat Geo Wild) and have grown to like the man. Now I found out that he died before they could film a second season.

LIHUE — Dr. Scott Sims, a veterinarian made famous by starring in his own reality television show but revered on Kauai long before that, died Saturday at Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

Friends said they will remember a man who was caring, witty and wise — and someone who lived up to his nickname, the barefoot Aloha Vet, while caring for goats, chickens, horses and parrots at any hour.

He was 59.

“He touched so many people on this island,” said Su Haynes, a close friend of Sims since the veterinarian moved to the island around 2002. “There’s hardly anyone on this island that he didn’t touch.”

What I found nice about him was that he often helped people work out affordable ways to get their animals treated. I could tell that he really cared about the creatures he treated.

He was a unique and wonderful man from what I could see of him in the few shows I've caught. I was looking forward to another season!

He was cool!

I hope they find another good doctor to help with that clinic.

I like vet shows. They have a bunch of other ones on Hulu.

I've only caught it a few times but he seems good.

I agree, Dr. Simms died way too young.

I'm a fan of most of the vet shows. Having been pretty close with my horse vets, it's fun seeing vets deal with various animals.

Another show is set in South Florida and has female vets that treat only exotic animals. But that one started bothering me - every week some animal died and the younger vet had to notify the owners. Every week she cried and it almost seemed set up so that she would have to cry every episode. Plus, I don't really approve of having exotics for pets.

i watch that one too. i couldn't believe the number of patients he had! the one in florida, i didn't particularly care for, don't know why. she's one of the few that handles large parrots though and that's interesting to me. i don't have birds now, but have had a cockatiel and small conure before. most parrots are pretty noisy, though, and that would probably drive me nuts!

do you still have horses?
