My father was an mechanic/welder/self-taught engineer (he took the classes and got his license but never a college degree).

So I was stateside as the Nazis took power.

I returned as a GI during the war and bravely sat behind a typewriter most of my time because my main use to the Army was translating German.

I’m very happy to have swum then; getting old is not fun. I technically have an unrestricted drivers license but I’ve decided to hang up driving at night.

My advice for a quality of life when old is to be good to your children. Don’t chase material things. Regarding health, I’ve been a serious weight lifter all my life. As in I competed well into my 60s. I’ve done much better than most as a result. Never much of a runner. I just walked a lot. Still do. Also lift.
