Best pancakes you've ever had?

My vote goes for De Leon Springs State Park in Florida, about an hour north of Orlando.

$6 for a pitcher, all you can eat. The griddle's right in the middle of the table and you cook them up yourself. You can order toppings (blueberries, chocolate chips, etc.) to add in, or bacon or sausage to grill on the side.

The unbleached white mixture is exceptional; the six grain whole wheat is simply out of this world. There are three different syrups (maple, honey and molasses).

After you've stuffed yourself, you'll want to work off some of that load, so there's the freshwater spring to swim in or the river run to take a canoe out into, plus plenty of hiking trails.

But those pancakes though.....

and Pecan are my favorite but I can't possibly imagine they mess any pies up so get over there.

They have regular food too - the best fried chicken I can think of. Corn cakes (like pancakes but with corn. And some kind of syrup that blew me away the first time I had it.)

The first time I was there I had a piece of butterscotch pie for dessert. I had to order a whole pie to take home. Some of it even made it home.

I'll add that to the list. We have nebulous plans for a Keys trip sometime in the next couple of near futures..(lol, how's THAT for nailing it down). My wife was born and raised in Orlando but never been to the keys so we know we need to go - just trying to figure out when the best time is.

And you can't ever hurt my feelings giving me key lime something. (That's another great pie at Yoder's by the way - both versions - their Yoders Key Lime and traditional Florida Key Lime with the graham cracker crust)

The best I have ever had was at a little hole-in-the-wall breakfast place in San Francisco called Doidges (now sadly closed). I swear they were using some variation of cake batter. Cake flour for sure. They were sublime.

I do love a nice buckwheat pancake though. Must be accompanied by very good coffee, or why bother.

That way I can pull out enough for breakfast, lunch, or dinner & just pop them in the toaster to reheat. Wicked good.
