So many chilling moments...seeing that wall going up gave me reverberations of The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. The plane scene with Powers was scary as hell. I'm reccing it to everyone!

Also enjoyed the plane scene. I was born in '57 so really don't remember much, but the movie inspired me to do more research. If you like historic movies, you'll love "Bridge of Spies."

I was a little younger than you and I'm frankly surprised that I recall the incident so well basically because I was a kid, and also we certainly didn't have the access to 24 hour news or the internet. It was basically ABC, NBC, and CBS news at 6:00. But I definitely do remember.

8. It's an intelligent, valuable movie.

Valuable, because it will give younger people an idea of just what a scary world their parents and grandparents lived through, back in the 50's and 60's. Hiding under school desks as a preventative measure against an A-bomb blast was just a part of it. Do you other old-timers remember air raid siren tests every week? Sonic booms? People in your neighborhoods constructing underground shelters? Do any of you recall, as I do, helping to pack your family car in the midst of the Cuban missile crisis, because the outbreak of World War III seemed probable? Spielberg's movie doesn't depict most of those things, but it certainly brought all of them back to me.

9. Mark Rylance should be a shoo in for a best supporting actor Oscar.

Hanks was very good.....Mark Rylance as Rudolf Abel was even better.

Edited for grammar.

An absolute gem of understated, effective acting. I hope he snags the Oscar, and I hope we see a lot more of him on-screen.

I knew the pilot who I think flew Powers out of West Berlin.
I have copies of some air force commendations that indicate he was the one.
I've been in contact with Francis Gary Powers Jr.

settings and situations of the past with levels of micro-detail that are simply astounding. Two very fine lead actors.

Spielberg pulls off a really suspenseful film about a story we know the ending to. But the details are just so fabulous! And I checked online and it's mostly been rated as pretty close to the facts...
