The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsEver have one of those days when you don't feel like doing a damn thing?
That's the way I felt yesterday. I got up early but went back to bed after breakfast and slept until around 2 in the afternoon. I didn't even get in my walks yesterday and I've been doing about 3 miles on Saturdays and Sundays.
I did manage to get one thing done. I went out and bought my wife's anniversary gift. Our 4th anniversary is coming up on 11/5. We've actually been together 5 years, but we waited a year before we got married. I am almost down to the weight I was when we got married. I've got 19 more pounds to go to get there.
Today we are going out of town to visit a friend who is a priest. We'll be attending service at his new church. I'll be surprised if the place doesn't burn down when I walk in it. No, I'm not the religious type, but I married a Christian lady so a visit to church here and there kind of comes with the territory. It doesn't bother me much aside from being bored for about an hour. It will be nice to see Simon, our friend. I do have some nice acquaintances from my church visits and Simon is a good friend.

I take a med that kills energy as a side effect.
Congrats on your anniversary !!!!
Dunno where you live, but around here church is THE place to meet people, to develop a social life.
You are a kind soul to go along with your wife.

(10,418 posts)In our town, church attendance is on the decline, but the Catholic church here is still strong.
My wife is an Episcopalian, which I have dubbed the rock-n-roll version of Christianity. They are accepting of homosexuals and they let women and homosexuals in the clergy. I've seen them put away some booze as well at get-togethers. You'd think for those reasons that the church would be very popular with young people, but the congregation is mainly older and they only pull about 40 people on a good Sunday- most of the time less.

(60,010 posts)They allow use of alcohol.
And dancing.
There is a Baptist church per mile, and a Presbyterian Church ( all those darn Scots who settled in the South)
plus some Pentacostal varieties.
All in a town of 6,000 people.

(54,256 posts)I'm an atheist. Miz t. is Episcopalian.
She was raised Catholic, but can't abide their dogma and the child abuse, etc.
Episcopal is 'Catholic Lite'.
She is The Church Lady now.
Very active in 'Family Promise', Flower Guild, Prez of Episcopal Women's Club, etc. etc.
It's not a problem for us.
She knows how I feel, and I know that she enjoys her faith.
Live and let live for 46 years so far.

(14,881 posts)mental and physical rest, healing and getting back into my life.
Those days are fine, Tobin. Heed what your body and mind tell you. Give yourself some time as a human being, versus a human doing. You may have been warding off a bug or something...

(10,418 posts)For about 2.5 years I worked my ass off working 50-55 hours a week on the job and finishing my degree. You might remember my posts about that. So I know exactly where you are coming with needing mental and physical rest. I think it took me about 4 months to get my sanity back and it took me 9 months before I felt the desire to do something about my overall health.
I know you were working two jobs and taking care of some farm critters, as well. You may be in the same boat I was this past January.
I feel great most of the time now, though.

(14,881 posts)18 hour days working p/t, in school p/t and caring for the animals and farm. As my personal economy deteriorated, I was now somewhat dependent , maybe 75%, on my garden for veggies and fruit. Not getting any younger, either, in my mid-late 50s.
Then graduated to shrinking MLT market, so had to go back to the p/t job from school to give a regular income. I never really recovered from the 18 hour days; had to hit the ground running.
Having been unceremoniously dumped by the lab, I'm now just picking up the many broken pieces of my life. Thank Dawg for early social security. It doesn't kick in until late December, but I think I can hang on until then.

(16,377 posts)I work 10 hours 6:00 p - 4:45 p on Sundays, so by the time I get home I'm toast. Mondays I sleep in, wake up, have coffee, go back to bed, repeat. I'm still in my PJs, BTW @ 7:32 p

(63,221 posts)That only seems to make it worse. Sometimes I just give in to it, and then sooner or later I feel energetic again. I think that judging yourself for it kind of puts you in a worse place psychologically and it snowballs from there. Just go with it and see a doctor to make sure you are physically healthy and that there is not a physical rather than mental cause for it.
If it persists, you may want to see a mental health professional because it could just be a low grade type of depression.
