He comes to my voice; either name works fine!
A. Rudy, his current name
B. Oaksley, the name that I hear in my head, that reflects his color and new life.
For a little detail: very affectionate, loves belly rubs. Very friendly with other cats, too. Due to affectionate nature, expected to stick around. And if somebody steals him he'll pee and poop in their house!
Was found by side of road at ~3 months old, thin but not emaciated, and in good health. Been at the shelter for nearly a year. Oh, and apparently he was just featured in a teevee ad in a costume. So he's already a celebrity!

(14,881 posts)I've let him roam around the tack room a couple times to check things out. When I call to him, he comes right over.

(14,881 posts)When I started thinking about getting another kitteh, initially I was drawn to 2 specific color patterns. He's one of the 2.
I hadn't even gotten the words out of my mouth -- barn cat -- and they immediately selected him for me.
That he is so very friendly on the one hand, is very lucky for me. Usually the barn kittehs are ferals that won't get tame.
On the other hand, even while he is beautiful with his particular "personal issue" he won't be stolen, which makes him perfect for me, and me very, very lucky.
I said to the shelter people that I had started asking myself why I suddenly felt the need to get a cat. When they described him, I realized that he needed me. I just need to be needed.

(21,846 posts)Could it be Oxley?
Is he strong as an ox?
Edited to add:
Where's the photo? How can we name a kitty without knowing what his/her face looks like

(14,881 posts)It's dark grey out today, so the barn is too dim right now; you wouldn't be able to see him appropriately.
Definitely Oak, as in sturdy like an oak tree. And the color of an oak leaf in October, including his sweet amber eyes.
I think he told me his name. I couldn't even remember "Rudy" by the next day, and kept thinking "Rusty....no that's not right..."

(12,647 posts)Sweet little girl, probably around 5 months old now. Went from a small handful and a half of scared and starving fluff to lanky kitty adolescence in six weeks.
The 4-year old grandbaby living with us wanted to call her Snowball, for the five or six strands of white hair on her chest (otherwise, she's solid black with a long tail, huge ears, and copper-green eyes), and Laz wanted to call her Shadow, after a favorite literary cat.
After three days, I called her Goblin. That look on her face, when her eyes get huge, ears prick up, and she's ready to launch herself on another cat or human.
She's sweet, fearless, and actually somewhat dog-like, not too destructive, but she gets very determined if she think's there's food involved, some form of play-toy (especially a chewie - hands will do in a pinch), and she always wants to know (and get in the middle of) whatever the people are doing. Always. Follows Laz and me from room to room, no matter what we are doing - sewing, cooking, cleaning, house renovations, cuddling - anything.
Goblin is her name; she answers to it.
The other household cats (all rescues) are "Princess" (an elderly Lynx-point pixie-bob who wants to be alone), "Kali-Ma" (our calico pest disposal unit), and "Eris" (our tuxedo vacuum-cleaner of food that is left out un-attended or uncovered)
