It's been a good Christmas. What did you get?

I got several gift cards. One to a local car wash from my wife good for a year's worth of car washes at the rate that I get my car washed. She also got me a fancy bottle opener and a beer stein. I got a Tim Horton's gift card from my mother-in-law and father-in-law. I have taken to getting a bucket of coffee from there in the mornings. They also got me a gift card to a very nice local Italian restaurant and several gift cards for Sirius/XM that will be enough to renew my satellite radio subscription for the next year. I got a gift card to Red Lobster from my dad.

I have one more Christmas party to go to tomorrow.

We are working people. My father-in-law is semi-retired. He works part time for a funeral home. He's been in that business for most of his life. His boss gave him a nice cash bonus this year as well as gift cards to a nice local restaurant and to Dillard's. I'm a truck driver and I got a nice cash bonus from my employer for Christmas. I really needed it, too.

We feel fortunate in that we have what we need as well as a little extra to spend on each other. We had a nice dinner today and relaxed in each others company. It would be nice to have a lot of money, but I think that as long as we have what we need with a little breathing room, we will be okay.

Let me clarify, it's not a porno coloring book but a coloring book aimed at adults. They are supposed to help you zen out and relax while you color intricate patterns.

The patterns are really intricate and complex. She is also into something called zentangle which has the same objective that you have described. It's like the zen of doodling. Here is an example of one of her creations.

I tell her that and she doesn't believe me. My dad took a look at some of her stuff and said he would pay her to create something for him. She hand made some Christmas cards with zentangle and sent one of them to him. He has it framed and hanging on his wall. Maybe she will start to believe in herself now. I will show her what you said.

Today, most of the hubbub was about our son and nephew, both of whom are ~very~ happy young men today.
One got an acoustic/electric hybrid guitar...
The other, a PS4.

Nevertheless, my people know my quirky interests and affectations well... and so:
1.) "Crow" stuff -- a 'POP!' figure and a vintage movie t-shirt
2.) Crescent moon pendant with a rainbow accent
3.) an assortment of books on the funeral/death-care industry (trust me... this was perfect!)

At the pub's Christmas party last weekend, my 'Secret Santa' (and favorite bartender) found me two "Big Hero 6" Baymax t-shirts, as well as having me a work-shirt made with the pub's old logo on the front, and the words KITCHEN MAGICIAN on the back!
(her dad owns a screen-print shop that used to make the work uniforms for the pub, and he still has the stencils)

it's been a good year...

But there were several of items that I have no use for or interest in. I can't figure out why a close relative who (presumably) knows me well would give them to me. For example: A deck of playing cards (I haven't played any card game since I was 10 or so and occasionally played Old Maid) and a package of cocktail napkins (I rarely entertain, and still have cocktail napkins somebody else gave me at least 15 years ago). I guess it's the thought that counts but I kind of wish they'd thought just a little harder and not spent money on things that I wouldn't want at all. So I'll just enjoy the wine and give the other stuff to Good Will.

a deck of cards? Wow.

As for the cocktail napkins, they might be okay if they had a funny phrase on them or something or even came with a few cool glasses but a pack of cocktail napkins alone also seems a little odd to me.

I was with my wife and two daughters plus my wife's mom. There's nothing material I really want, and that's pretty much what I got. Our daughters got us a painting of two flamingoes on a black background by a young artist who is up and coming in Europe and was originally a Düsseldorf artist. He now lives in Denmark (Danish GF), but they somehow managed to get this here to Germany. VERY imaginative, as they usually are. Perfect!

Other than that I got my wife a small trinket from Bavaria, gave my girls some money and got my mom in law an exotic-looking salad bowl and salad fork and spoon made in Tunesia out of olive wood.

My wife and I are already in the airport (not yet 6 AM here) waiting to leave for the USA. Everyone else is leaving for somewhere later on, and we are leaving the house in the hands of a married couple from Kazakhstan who are trying to finish a house of their own, but haven't completed it yet. They get the run of ours while we are away.

when i add up everything from my husband, sister, mom and dad, i came away with: zombie slippers, an awesomely ugly griffyndor sweatshirt, a probe thermometer, a set of measuring spoons and small measuring cups, glass two- and four-cup measuring cups, an america's test kitchen cookbook, a couple katamari games for the ps3, a ps3 controller, bob ross socks, a printer/scanner and a handmade purse. i also got a whole lot of chocolate in my stocking. stocking had lots of chocolate and a $25 prepaid visa

we ate so much today. we had bagels and homemade lox with bloody marys for breakfast and dinner was brisket and potato kugel. there was good music playing, sister and i got tipsy and played games, husband napped and dad read.

now we're home, playing one of my games and having dessert of bourbon and chocolate.

today was a good day.

Small group, only four of us, everyone else lives elsewhere. I just got a few small things, which is fine, I didn't ask for or expect or want anything. I did treat myself to this company that sends you a wacky new pair of socks once a month. You can sign up for 3, 6, or 12 months.

I was thinking of getting one of those adult coloring books for my mother.

I had to take 2 Klonapin to get through it, but it ended up being all good. We lost my uncle a couple of Christmases ago on Christmas Day. I would have seen him that weekend. But my aunt is still with us and I'm always glad to see her. She'll be 87 next month. We don't really have any kids in the family right now except a baby that lives in Hawaii. We've gotten out of the gift giving thing, although I exchanged gift cards with my brother and his wife.

into the 21st century -- she gave me a thing -- the box says Amazon Fire. I have no idea what it's for or how I would use it. She said she would help me figure it out. She loves hers (?) More importantly, she gave me 12 tickets to the 2016 Seattle International Film Festival. I went to 28 movies in the Festival last May and will probably go to as many next May, so these tickets will be great!!!! A huge box of European Chocolate cookies from my son-in-laws parents (I gave them 2 boxes of those little cups with coffee in them). A candle holder for my bathroom. And my favorite: FRUIT CAKE!!! (yes, really).

And the best gift of all, the Republican, Christian, Palin-loving, conservative, gun-loving, fraternal-order members (son-in-law's parents) said they PREFER BERNIE!!! I was deeply appreciative and somewhat surprised. They had many negative things to say about Trump and Cruz and their condemnation of Islam (not all are out to kill us; more threatened by white Christian males). Never thought I would hear all that from them.

I also got her some gift cards to her favorite restaurant. We got my father-in-law and mother-in-law a gift card to their favorite restaurant. We also got fil some blue tooth headphones and a huge jar of pretzels. We also got mil some jewelry.

We got my dad one of those dog-shaming calendars, a picture frame that says "World's greatest dog" for a pic of his puppy, and some cologne. We got his dog a gift card to Wendy's. He really loves his dog.

We did a drawing for my siblings, mom, and step-dad as well as my brothers-in-law (I have three sisters). I drew my step-dad and got him a couple of bottles of his favorite liqueur.

I have four nieces. We got them all a few items of clothing and a few toys. I also have bank accounts for them that I started when they were born. Each year on their birthdays and on Christmas, I make a deposit into their accounts. The money will be given to them when they graduate high school.

Part of my gift came early-- free spending during the Jo-Ann Black Friday Sale... (not saying what I spent. lol). A long handled citrus zester, new chef kitchen towels (mine were looking so awful), and a robot vacuum. I'm feeling very spoiled.

The cats got a new tri scratcher, nip, a box of new toys that included; springs, mice, jingle balls, mylar crinkle balls. We also saved a big box with yards of brown packing paper, so they can play kitty fortress.

The husband got books, a lap desk, shot glasses, Lindor truffles, cigar accessories, a watch, and additions to the Carrera race track.

From the top this is a pair of 5.11 boots for work which are super comfortable.
Under that is a dice game called AGE OF WAR

Next to the dice game is a ivCar bluetooth adapter for my car. I despise morning talking dj's and their insipid ramblings about nonsense that happened yesterday.

Next is a pair of Nike Air Max 95 in a sick colorway & oh so comfortable. Like walking in cotton. [link:http://www.amazon.com/Nike-Mens-Cave-Purple-Running/dp/B00CJZ475I/ref=sr_1_15?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1451259294&sr=1-15&nodeID=7141123011&keywords=nike+air+max+95|

I was diagnosed a couple of months ago as having a cataract on my right eye. My left eye has been weak since my birth. The technology and science back then (1950) helped a little but not a great deal.

The cataract meant that in various circumstances (e.g. glare), I was effectively blind. I couldn't drive a car. If I turned into the sun, everything became black. I didn't even think about driving at night.

Two days before Chrimbo, I had an op on my right eye. When I took my my patch off the next day, I could not believe how well I could see. And the colours were absolutely dazzling. I used to wear glasses, but I see better now without them.

Doctors and nurses throughout the world, I thank you. Very sincerely and from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.

Best Christmas present EVER!!!
