Pulling the plug

Swallowing gallons of water every second, is this Britain's biggest plughole?

These stunning images show the overflow plug at picturesque Lady Bower Reservoir, in Derbyshire, in full-effect.

Photographer David Zdanowicz took the artistic pictures on Saturday.

They show water cascading into the hole, while the rest of the reservoir is serene.

1. They are often fully exposed when there's not an abundance of water in the reservoir.

I still occasionally have nightmares about the thing.

I've seen the Ladybower in operation too.

I'll have to get over there after the current storm and see if the reservoir is up to that level again.

Long ago in a life far away...

Edit -this is in response to the CA lake spillover tube.

Road trip to a "Pipeline" to skate...
Had to swim with the boards etc. across to the opening at the base of the damn.

It was huge inside-about a 30' diameter. I was with a friend who was a god given expert on anything with wheels. He managed to get well past the 1/2 way point to get "over vertical". It was a big deal back then. But I never skated that well. I just had a vehicle & a trunk full of boards.

Nowadays? Lucky to be walking & able to swing a metal detector.

I did not age well after a life well lived-in that I bounced far too many times & am now paying the price.
