Daily Holidays - February 9

National Bagel Day National Bagel Day (formerly Bagel and Lox Day) is observed annually on February 9th.

Bagels are one of the few breads that are boiled then baked. This creates a soft inside while keeping a crisp outside. Bagels originated in Poland in the early 17th century and now sell over a billion dollars worth each year in the United States. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/national-bagel-and-lox-day-february-9/

National Pizza Day is observed annually on February 9th. Whether it is thin crust, Chicago style, deep dish or anything in between, pizza is an American favorite. http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/national-pizza-day-february-9/

National Stop Bullying Day It’s time to stop bullying – whether it’s in the playground, the home or the workplace. World Day of Bullying Prevention encourages you to try and stop the bullying in your environment or life, and to work together to eradicate bullying all together. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/stop-bullying-day/

Read in the Bathtub Day Disconnect the phone, lock the door, turn down the lights and pick out your favourite book safe in the knowledge that all you’ve got to worry about is enjoying yourself. Why not splash out on some scented candles, posh bubblebath and – for the more adventurous – a rubber ducky to keep you company? https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/read-in-the-bathtub-day/

Toothache Day Toothaches are no fun, and so you will no doubt be surprised to learn that Toothache Day exists. Don’t be alarmed, though. This day is certainly not about celebrating the dreaded toothache. No way! Instead, Toothache Day is actually more about education and awareness and helping people learn how to prevent them happening to begin with and how best to make them go away, and quick! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/toothache-day/

Food snobs may scoff, but I like the jalapeño cheddar bagels from my local Vons supermarket (though I add diced Anaheim chiles and freshly-grated sharp cheddar).

And I'll admit to being a fan of Domino's since they improved their ingredients and added garlic to the crust a few years back. And when they hear my name or address on an incoming order, the delivery guys who know my tips pitch in to make my order and add extra amounts of my toppings.

I have been in dental hell for over a week now, waiting to see the oral surgeon. Ugh.

Even though I've been through more than most, including having had half my lower jaw rebuilt 3 times, I still sympathize with anyone dealing with toothaches. And having to wait more than a week is terrible!

Going to the dentist did allow me to meet Bob Eubanks, though, back when he was a top radio disc jockey at KRLA in Los Angeles and I was a high school student. We just happened to have the same dentist in Granada Hills. The dentist was just finishing with me when Eubanks came in for his appointment, and Dr. Figliozzi asked me if I'd like to meet him.
