Le Mans may be the most boring Steve McQueen movie of the 70s.

TCM has had a Steve McQueen day.
Bullitt (best car chase ever), The Cincinnati Kid, The Honeymoon Machine.
Le Mans is just a lot of engine noise.

I guess you have to be my age (60s) and an auto racing fan to see it as I do. It's a snapshot of what I see as the golden age of racing. Brings back a lot of good memories.

In the '60s, there was a niche in the market for a rugged leading man who was uglier than Clint Eastwood but prettier than Lee Marvin, and he happened along into it. He couldn't act his way through onionskin paper.
