Then home again for some much-needed rest. Then a weekend of continuing education. After CME, studying for re-certification enters the nose-to-the-grindstone phase...

We've been there, but damn, it was raining!

Re-certification is the pits but I'm sure you will do well!

For some reason the mic was off so we couldn't hear the tributes from two of Pete's friends. Today was my last trip into a church. We sang a two old hymns that I remembered from my childhood. I knew there would be a memory board but I still wasn't prepared to walk in a see Pete's smiling face with I Geek Cats boldly written across the bottom. He didn't want our tears. So like Pete.

Btw - I love Belgian ales. My daughter and I went to Delirium Tremens in Brussels recently. We had this. SO good!!!

Two weeks off will feel like a luxurious vacation, I'd imagine. Enjoy every second!

That's fantastic that you work at a community clinic BUT I know that it's some of the hardest most demanding work.

Btw - I'm a RN and I always loved working with PAs and NPs over the MDs. They listen more and seem to explain things better to the patients.

Glad that I could help with the buzz! lol..

It takes all of us to get it done. I'm sure your dad was a great influence!

If I can ever go back (I'm on disability right now), I would love to get my Public health cert. and work in a community center. Not sure that would ever be possible at this stage, but it would be a goal.

So will your work schedule always be this demanding or will you eventually get a little more time off?

Our productivity goals keep going up. Anytime the administrators need more revenue, they just increase the number of patients they expect us to see in a day. Right now, the goal is 18, and if that doesn't seem like a lot, the protocol is to schedule 23 or 24, to cover expected cancellations and no-shows. Bu of course, there are always the days (Mondays and Fridays, usually...) when everybody shows up...

I should get some kind of award; right now, I'm at 97% productivity, the highest, not only in our clinic, but in all of our clinics in the county...

Or how about just an occasional extra day off?? Right... like that's gonna happen if you are the most productive! lol..

18-24 is a lot of patients. A lot! I know all of the paperwork, referrals, phone calls, and everything else that goes into just one patient much less 18+. You must work 10+ hour days.

It sounds like they should give you a clinic to be in charge of.

I get to the clinic around 6:30am, put on some coffee and relaxing music, and tackle the mountain of paperwork that's always in my in-box. The rest of the staff get in around 7:45, and clinic starts at 8:30.

With any luck, I'll be done by 5:00pm, and head home. So I don't die of high blood pressure, it's an hour of cardio, and 30-45 minutes of weight-lifting. Then shower, shave, surf the net for a while or watch TV, then crash. Wake up at 5:45, and do it all over again., I spend weekends finishing anything I didn't have time for during the work-week.

Once a month, a nice massage.

Vacation? I went on a two-week cruise to Hawaii in 2013. That was the last time I had two weeks off in a row...

It's also fun to watch TV up there, this completely different country with a similar, but notably different, culture. I like getting away from this pressure-cooker of a nation, and chilling out with Canadians, who are a lot more liberal and laid-back than we are.

Someone once called Russia the 'Florida of countries'.
