I found the series 4 years ago and have started to delve into classic Doctor novels and Big Finnish audio plays when I work out. Just love the character so much. Really taking a liking to the 7th doctor.

(133 posts)I love the doctor. I used to watch the old episodes years ago when they were on PBS. I watch all the new ones (and reruns) when they are on BBCAmerica. I am awaiting the new companion. I was glad to see Clara go. David Tenant and Matt Smith are my favorite doctors.

(2,331 posts)Very pretty competent actress with such a stale character. Just nothing you could grasp onto and say that is Clara Oswald. Hopefully the new companion will bring a little more quirkiness that one wants from a companion.
Amy is my favorite.

(1,999 posts)I love Donna and Sarah Jane Smith. School Reunion was one of my all-tine favourite episodes, and I was devastated when Elisabeth Sladen died.

(8,646 posts)but as I said, I haven't watched any of the older stuff before 2005. I don't have very strong opinions on the other ones - Rose, Martha, Amy, Clara...I do like them all...but they fit a 'type'. Donna did not fit that type and I LOVED that.

(25,586 posts)He was the first Doctor I saw when I discovered the show in my teens, sometime back in the Late Jurrasic.
And I'm sure Tegan as a companion helped; young men are quite predictable in that way.

(8,646 posts)I'm not sure I'm 100% a whovian....love the series since they started again in 2005 but haven't really been able to watch the older stuff (for many reasons). So until the 9th doctor I'm very lacking in knowledge. But I've watched pretty much every episode since "Rose".

(520 posts)My son introduced me to Doctor Who a couple of years ago. Now I'm more obsessed with it than I have been with Star Trek. As a matter of fact, I just watched The Town Called Christmas last night. I'm collecting the novels and audio books but don't have any of the classic series yet. they're a little hard to find. #9 was my first but #12 is my favorite so far, though I have to admit when I've had a really really bad day that I need me some #11

(2,331 posts)Terror of the Autons is fantastic. They have a series of paperbacks on Amazon which are the novelized versions of the 60s and 70s TV series. Had an excellent half day off of work yesterday and spent it reading. They are reasonably priced as well <$6 on Kindle.

(2,331 posts)He has hit his stride though. This past Christmas Special was really good. Husbands of River Song.

(22,298 posts)I like what they've done with the reboot. Captain Jack is probably the best Dr. Who side character ever created, imo. I just wish they'd been able to make him a full companion, but his spin-off series, "Torchwood," is also amazing. I also liked all of the companions in the David Tennant years & still want to smack the Doctor hard for not realizing Martha was in love with him while he was all "Rose Rose Rose Rose."
I haven't really liked the more recent companions though. Amy & Rory really got on my nerves & I was one of the few cheering their last episode. I actually liked Clara, at first, but like Amy & Rory, they kept her going far too long. It will be interesting to see where they take the new companion.

(11,906 posts)I like almost all the versions of the Dr.
I'm a big fan of the show (I'm not up on the ancillary material, because good gravy, is there a lot of it).
I tried to make a list of my ten favorite stories, and I decided to stop because I couldn't get it under thirty.
I was first exposed to the show in the '80s through Tom Baker-era stories on PBS, and even in the face of all the wonderful Doctors of the new era, he is still my favorite.

(2,331 posts)Netflix had Classic Who but it was only a few episodes. Now that they moved to Amazon Prime I was hoping they'd open up more of the catalog.

(2,935 posts)The thing about Doctor Who is that I've never seen a truly bad episode. The worst is merely disposable, the typical is charming and sweet, and the best makes for some of the finest television ever.
My favorite episodes:
-The Silence of the Library two-parter (the introduction of River Song, with the most life-affirming ending in the series)
-Day of the Doctor (the 50th anniversary special, and the greatest one imaginable. John Hurt is incredible, and Tennant and Smith are like gangbusters together)
-Heaven Sent (one of the most searing examinations of grief I've come across--Emmy-worthy)
