My wife's aunt painted this for us as a going away present

She's an artist in Kolkata

This is Hanuman, my favorite Hindu deity, mistaking the Sun for a mango. It's an amazing story that gets to the central symbolic importance of Hanuman, who is cursed (like all of us mortals) to always forget his own divinity.

I seriously love this painting and just wanted to share.

This is her aunt's work; her great aunt was a music teacher, who talked about teaching "that young rascal Satyajit" meaning, yes, that Satyajit.

Can you clarify that for me?

It's a beautiful painting! I'm just a little confused by the iconography.

This is also kind of a joke from my aunt; that's more or less my face on Hanuman with some monkey cheeks applied.

(It's only 7:30am here, and I'm not fully awake, obviously).

Very cute that your aunt paid an homage to you, with your favorite deity!
That is really something to treasure!

thanks for sharing!

(Until I read the whole post I thought this might have been one of the monkeys controlling the cabana.)
