The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWell, I got laid off today.
They really liked me and my work but they eliminated my job. While it is scary to be unemployed, I really didn't like that job and the pay was really low so I'm okay with it. I was planning on looking for a new anyway.

(58,511 posts)I was unemployed until I broke down and asked another school parent if she had any leads. She put me in touch with someone and the rest fell into place. No one will help unless you ask.

(9,898 posts)Since you weren't that crazy about the job, this could be a short cut to something better.. Good luck.

(3,275 posts)Fortunately, I also get a small amount of severance pay and unused vacation pay since I haven't taken a day off all year. Plus, my boss promised me a good reference. It was weird to wake us this morning and remember that I was unemployed but I'll be okay.

(6,556 posts)I'm in a similar boat. (Got fired due to a combination of office politics and medical issues.) I'm actually kind of happy -- I hated my job and it was making me borderline suicidal/homicidal.
Here's hoping you'll end up with a better job than the last one.
