(10,418 posts)I dreaded it initially, but I was getting pretty comfortable with it by the end of the semester. The teacher was a big fan of TED talks and she frequently showed them in class and we would critique them afterwards. Then she showed one with a guy who was trying to make the point that we are the fattest society on Earth and we really need to shape up. He thought it was just some horrible tragedy and we are going to be dying younger now yadda, yadda, yadda.
I am overweight and there were other overweight people in the class. I am sure that everyone in the class who was overweight was already aware of the fact, and even at their young ages had probably already tried many times to be thinner. In other words, we didn't need this pointed out to us. It doesn't help and it makes fat people feel worse.
I hated professors who had an agenda other than teaching the class the subject at hand.
