No edition of William Shakespeare's Thought For The Day today.

I'm so outraged by the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile, that the only images I felt compelled to use in my post were alarmingly graphic. As I prepared to press 'Post My Thread!', I realized that the images could be considered highly-disrespectful violence porn. I couldn't bring myself to go through with it.

I know we're all anguished about this, and the subsequent events in Dallas. And while deploring the murder of cops is a worthy reaction, I'm choosing to perpetuate the memory of Sterling and Castile. Will and I are taking a break this weekend. I hope we'll be back on track soon.

As a white American, I don't think I fully understood the depth of what has been happening in the black community regarding law enforcement. Someone wrote somewhere on here that, "The violence isn't new. The cameras are."

Perhaps that is an indication of my own bias. I apologize to all black Americans for not fully understanding sooner.

And still your fingers on your lips, I pray.
The time is out of joint—O cursèd spite,
That ever I was born to set it right!
Nay, come, let's go together.
