No need to crush the candy and add it, it's already done for me.
Excuse me while I get back to eating the pain away.

(20,433 posts)I mean Yuuuuugly healthy! You're going to be so healthy that germs will run in fear from you! You will absolutely be the Donald Trump of healthy!

(23,812 posts)It says Heath Bars, not Health bars. Sorry - couldn't resist.

(56,888 posts)It might start out as ice cream, but the finished product does not rise to the standard of ice cream.
Do you see that list of ingredients over two inches long, printed on the end of the container? If this were ice cream, that list would be about one-half inch long.
A lot of Breyers products are not ice cream. You have to read the fine print. I found out the hard way.
By the way, Safeway stores in the DC area have what used to be half-gallons and are now 48 ounces (and don't get me started on that) of Breyers on sale this week for $1.99.
Is Turkey Hill ice cream available where you are?
MrScorpio
(73,626 posts)Turkey Hill? Probably so, but I'd have to get a bag of Heath Bars for the pain.

(56,888 posts)Last summer, the stores were in a price war on ice cream. This year, they aren't.
You can get Turkey Hill with added stuff.
Giant house brand ice cream is okay too. Try the Moose Tracks.
Ice cream. Not a frozen dairy dessert.

(20,043 posts)To be called Ice Cream they must be 10% butterfat and an additional 10% nonfat milk solids. Many of the fancy flavors have so much added in that they just aren't fatty enough. It can be artificial ingredients, but it can be too many fruits, nuts or sugary items like caramel or fudge too.
mahatmakanejeeves
(56,888 posts)lacks sufficient fat to meet some Federal standard.
I mean, it's toffee, not tofu.
I'll bet our forefathers (forepersons) had the gumption to chop up their own Heath bars and stir the chunks into real ice cream. It just goes to show you how far our country has fallen.
Dagnab it.

(20,043 posts)But I am curious about the fat and milk solids percentage.

(53,339 posts)...was when I got a hand-cranked machine and made a mistake in trying to do the recipe for vanilla ice cream. The recipe was supposed to include a certain measure of whole cream and an equal measure of milk. After adding the whole cream, I proceeded to add an equal measure...of whole cream again, not milk. It turned out great!

(969 posts)If you want the REAL stuff, go for Dreyers.
Unilever is using a sound-alike name to knock off the good stuff.
Now, if you want to talk about guilty pleasures, try Dreyers Lemon Custard.
So good it's banned in 14 western states.

You can tell the difference between the quality by looking at the labeling. If it says "Frozen Dairy Dessert", it's got more artificial flavors, preservatives and emulsifiers in it than anything else. An Ice Cream has to have a defined percentage of cream in order to claim that name.
I liken it to the difference between margarine and butter. One is chemicals, dyes, and flavorings processed by "proprietary" methods, while the other is natural ingredients processed by known methods. You can taste the difference side by side. Go for the real stuff or don't go at all.

(1,837 posts)Thank you, no. Eating ice cream studded with things that don't thaw at the same rate as ice cream is a recipe for chipped teeth.
