Hope Solo has always been a controversial figure and on Friday she let loose with a quote that will only enhance that reputation.

Following the United States women’s soccer team’s shocking loss to Sweden in penalty kicks at the 2016 Olympics, Solo said the following: “We lost to a bunch of cowards. The better team did not win.”

Generations have been trained to be sore losers. It keeps them competitive and willing to take risks to avoid it at all costs.

Reading it in context I understand that what she was referring to was their style of play. They were playing it safe. Well it's up to the opposition team to take them out of their safe play and open the game up. The US couldn't do that and they lost. So whether it was the safe way (cowards way) to play or not, it worked for them.
