Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am so pissed at my neighbor right now!
the dog was barking out in the backyard, must have seen a squirrel or a bunny.
My 16 year old daughter went out to bring him in and my backyard neighbor complained loudly that the dog barking bothered him, many f~bombs were thrown.
She actually handled it pretty well, brought him in quickly and generally ignored him
but she was shaken and pretty upset.
apparently he yelled some tough guy shit at my wife a few weeks ago
but she is a city girl and told him "shut up dicknose"
WHICH PISSES ME OFF NO END!
the dog had only been out for few minutes and it was the middle of the afternoon.
I don't know this guy at all other than to wave hi to.
but at this moment
the papa bear instinct is strong and I want to punch his lights out
talk me down

(24,396 posts)More than that, I hate the dog owners in my neighborhood who walk their dogs and allow them to shit in everyone else's yards and don't clean up their shit.
It's a major problem in these parts.

(24,396 posts)I get your point. I was -in part - responding to your "the dog probably saw a bunny or a squirrel" comment. Dogs bark because that's what they do. They don't need the excuse of a cute little animal crossing their vision to disturb the peace of any neighborhood.
Your framing of the story seemed designed to push our "cute bunny" buttons.
The barking isn't a big deal to you, but the rest of us are forced to put up with it.
BTW - how often would you say you put your dog out in the yard to bark as much as they will? Once a year? Once a month? Once a day? A couple of times a day? I can't imagine anyone dropping f bombs if the barking is infrequent. If it's an every day thing, well, you might expect some pushback from a fed up neighbor.

(24,396 posts)I pass one house where the owners have their two dogs out in the backyard, unsupervised, about every day. I have never seen these dogs because they're behind a stone wall, but they hear me walking and it sets them off barking every time. I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it.

(2,895 posts)between 7am and 10pm , 8am on the weekends, he can bark his head off for an hour at a time
I am a responsible dog owner and I took the time to learn the rules

(36,827 posts)That doesn't mean either of you is wrong or right, but it does mean you now both have a problem. It might be worth considering having a discussion in a few days when everyone cools down and simply ask your neighbor to offer any solutions and you can ask that he come to you in a civil manner to discuss things rather than flying off the handle. Otherwise both of you are guaranteed to have unresolved issues that are probably going to fester and going through life hating your neighbor is going to suck for a very long time.

(3,818 posts)to be on bad terms with a neighbor. I would go over there with a peace offering like some home-baked cookies or invite him over for a beer and apologize and say you will keep the dog's barking under control, i.e., as soon as you hear him barking you will bring him in so he doesn't disturb anyone. He may work nights or something and need his sleep. Sure he way over-reacted especially towards your young daughter but I think for your long-term enjoyment of your home, being on good terms with your neighbor is the goal. Good luck.
