The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhat's the longest you've been away from the DU?
There seems to be a good number of regular posters here.
What's the longest period you've gone without visiting this forum? Days? Weeks? Months? Years?
What precipitated the hiatus? Vacation? A feud with another forum member that left you fed up and ready for a break? Just got busy with other things?

(47,534 posts)I didn't come back until she did.
Another week or so when MiddleFingerMom got banned. I argued so hard and not very nicely for his reinstatement that it was suggested that I take a break. So I did.
And another time for a week or two to reassess what I was doing here.

(17,175 posts)I don't have a laptop like the rich people, so my Internet umbilical was severed while I was in the hospital.

(63,883 posts)Even if I had computer access, which I don't, I'd be far too busy running around every day and coming back to my hotel room exhausted (and perhaps a little tipsy from all the great wine I had over a long, leisurely dinner).

Might have been about a month?

(21,771 posts). . .hospitalized for diverticulitis. . .had the first surgery to have a temporary (thank G*d) colostomy. . .plus rehab. . .then the second surgery weeks later to take it out (and get my real a$$-hole back). The whole thing left me minus a couple of inches of my colon.
Thankfully, I've had no further issues since.

(14,565 posts)This wasn't a friendly place in spring 2008, when Hillary supporters were ruthlessly attacked including related ignore lists passed out via private message. It was the type of hatred, fear and exclusion that is apropos of the other party. Many great DUers departed and never returned. I don't blame them.
In recent days I've read Hillary tributes here from some of the same names who ridiculed her in 2008. Quite amusing. Many of us handicapped Hillary correctly 8 years ago, yet were savaged for it.

Now I take my laptop everywhere and load my photos daily, and talk to my friends!

(1,151 posts)I recently came back under a different name. I left for personal reasons, and for those reasons can no longer use that user name. Which sucks.

(1,151 posts)The personal reasons were outside of DU. But that person knows my user name and searches for it from time to time so I abandoned it.
It's just a bummer because I see so many users still around and now they don't know me anymore. I'll PM a few of them and say hello though.

(27,052 posts)It was partly my problem, and partly that a lot of posters I was butting heads with were not really liberals.
Most of them are gone now, thank goodness.
You can only work the system for so long, it seems....

Furthest away from home I've ever posted to DU is a few thousand miles, shortly after I began to find discarded repairable laptops.
Linux rocks. A laptop that chokes on the latest version of Windows works perfectly well with Linux and some Motel Six level free internet.

(14,272 posts)I have gone long periods without posting. I was considering leaving during the primary season due to the large number of posters who have since found a more appropriate home for themselves on JPR.
I try to check in on DU every day, but internet availability during some vacations and business travel has forced me to disconnect - years ago. I'll say 2 weeks max.

2. I joined in Oct 2012, but after the election there was suddenly all this anti-Obama stuff. Posters were saying he was worse than Bush. I'm like, "What happened"? I tried putting some of them on ignore, but it wasn't worth it.
