In fact comparing apples, oranges, pears and maybe a pickle..

There are 2 definite phases to Chicagos sound, jazzy and blues inspired changing into soft rock ballads..

Boston to me is the far better band despite far less works to judge by.

Technical virtuosity taken to a ludicrously polished extreme versus soft rock pablum and ballads..

I vote Boston of course.
"More than a Feeling" and "Don't look Back" are far superior to "You're the Inspiration" and "Hard Habit to Break".. In fact aside from "Saturday in the Park" I can't think of a single Chicago song I like...

Chicago.

Introduction, Free Form Guitar and Liberation are compositions; while Foreplay, Smokin' and Long Time are just pop hits. Good pop hits, but pop hits. Jimi Hendrix once told Parazaider, "Jeez, your horn players are like one set of lungs and your guitar player is better than me."

Yet, much as Airplane slowly turned into Starship, CTA slowly turned into pop hits, pop hits which were about as good as Boston's, but still... just pop hits.

that's it. MIT geeks invented new stuff for Boston and I love that about them. Love every song on the first album. A couple songs on the second album. Waited nearly a decade for the third album and it was total crap. Never bothered with anything after that.

Chicago has a better body of work. Even if I don't like every song on every album I don't hate any of them as much as I hate Boston's "Amanda".
