Does it fart?

That's the question some scientists are confronting in regards to all sorts of animals. The answer in regards to snakes, for example, is a surprising yes!

Oysters and mussels? No!

Termites? Yes!

Below are links to a spreadsheet that the public can interact with (and it contains a whole bunch of animals with yes, no maybe responses in regards to expelling gas) and a link to an article on the fart study.

I can only speak on behalf of my dog, a German Shepherd cross, who absolutely lets 'em rip from time to time. I hear 'em and I smell 'em. Not pleasant!

The funniest ones are when he's lying down and he squeaks one out then lifts his head and looks at his backside as if to ask, "Did I do that? Is everything okay back there?"

I just checked the spreadsheet. Butterflies do indeed fart, so your secret was already out!

And are butterfly farts any more or less "powerful" than those of caterpillars, or are they equivalent?

So many windy questions!
