Pineapple on pizza. Yes or no? Iceland's president wants to ban it!

I LOVE pineapple on pizza. Love it! With or without ham. The salty cheese and sweet pineapple combo is terrific. It does seem to be a topic that polarizes people. It's rare to hear, "I don't care," when you ask someone if they like pineapple on pizza, it's usually "Yes" or "No way."

Iceland's president definitely falls into the latter category.

Faced with uproar at home and a social media storm abroad, the president of Iceland has been forced to clarify his outspoken stance on one of the defining questions of the age: whether pineapple should be allowed on pizza.

Last week, answering questions from pupils at a high school in Akureyri, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson said his favourite football team was Manchester United and he was “fundamentally opposed” to pineapple on pizzas.

The president then went further, saying that if he could, he would ban the tropical fruit as a pizza topping. Understandably, Twitter and half the world’s online media went into overdrive.

go to Frank Pepe's which is a bit of a hike from me. But I occasionally go to my local pizza place
and pick of a slice of either the plain or the pepperoni and go home and snarf it down! We have a place nearby that will deliver. When my son, who lives in NYC, drove me back from my daughter's house in MA he stopped there to get a slice to eat on his way back to the city. Later he told me how amazingly good it tasted. I just shrugged and said "I know."

The only pizza I ever ate, in Iceland, was produced on the base (or rather the 'NATO Agreed Area') so I never tried an actual Icelandic pizza and I've never, ever tried a pizza that included sea food as one of the toppings. Not even sure I'd want to.

I did, however, enjoy quite a few Pylsurs, which are the Icelandic version of a hot dog and are made from lamb. They were served with caramelized onions and mustard, and were heavenly.

The base in Keflavik, had a fish fry, every Friday night, that I still dream about.

Conversely, there was a 'fish factory' within wind direction of the base. How the smell of that place didn't put me off of eating fish, ever again, is a miracle.

I'll hit it with the parmesan before going into the oven too so the parm gets little crispy bits on top of the pineapple chunks.

Iceland has bigger fish to fry, no pun intended. It is also kind of silly because there are places in the world, places in Asia you might want to do business, which have no problem using pineapples in ways that we would not. I hope Iceland is not need to court Asian business anytime soon. If Iceland was the country that invented pizza, they might have a leg to stand on, indeed I remember watching "Jersey shore" where the cast went to Italy, and had to learn the very rigid rules for pizza making in Naples. However, considering that Naples was old when Rome was young, Naples has had a lot more time to define Italian cuisine that a bunch of people in Iceland.

Then again, Icelandic cuisine is nothing to speak of.

https://guidetoiceland.is/history-culture/the-worlds-most-disgusting-icelandic-food

I suppose perhaps maybe they might try putting the shark jerky on the pizza, or the sour Rams testicles. Actually, the short turkey might not be a half bad idea.
