1. Love 'em

Back in the seventies my significant other of the time and I would go to a local diner about once a week for grilled cheese sandwiches (with a slice of tomato in it) along with a cup of hot cocoa.

2. The number one rule of good grilled cheese

NO AMERICAN CHEESE!

That stuff is evil.

I read an article years ago about the various grades of American Cheese which has ever declining amounts of actual cheese in it. The stuff is basically cheese flavored jello. Disgusting.

I prefer a nice cheddar but just make it with real cheese of any kind.

My secret ingredient is Boarshead Maple glazed deli turkey. The combination of sweet and savory is to die for. My daughter thinks I am the Father of the Year when I make her those.

3. I stick hamburger dills in mine

I shake off excess pickle juice before I put them in.

6. upstairs at the balcony lunch counter in Woolworths....

...my favorite treat was a coke and grilled cheese sandwich after school (when I could save the 15 cents). I felt so worldly up there.
