Most restaurant and bakery baklava I've had was made with corn syrup or something similar which was sickeningly sweet. We make our own now.

Turks use a syrup made with sugar, water, and lemon juice instead of honey. It is not "sickeningly sweet"; it's actually lighter and less sweet than baklava made with honey.

https://www.thespruce.com/homemade-turkish-pistachio-baklava-3274168

Most baklava fans are familiar with Greek-style baklava which often features honey as the main sweetening ingredient. Turkish baklava is sweetened with "şerbet" (share-BET'), a light syrup made from sugar, water, and lemon juice. This makes Turkish baklava much lighter and crispier than most Greek or Middle Eastern-style varieties.

Baklava is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup or honey.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baklava

A balaclava, also known as a balaclava helmet or ski mask, is a form of cloth headgear designed to expose only part of the face. Depending on style and how it is worn, only the eyes, mouth and nose, or just the front of the face are unprotected. Versions with a full face opening may be rolled into a hat to cover the crown of the head or folded down as a collar around the neck.

I'd thought there were two in the package but it was one of those big mutant jobs. I'll get 3 meals out of it.

So I made a paste of 3 parts brown sugar and 2 parts dark brown spicy mustard and coated the thing and shoved it into the toaster oven. for 40 minutes.

It came out juicy, flavorful, and perfectly done, even in the thickest part. Rice and frozen veg accompanied it.

I will be doing this again. Anything non salty that gives a plain chicken breast real flavor is a good thing.

I'm 53. I never minded onions cooked into other food as long as they were overwhelmed by the other stuff. I like onion rings just fine.

But I've always haaaaated raw onions.

Until very recently - like in the last 2 months. I tried a local walk-up taco place that makes tacos al pastor which, as far as I can tell, is just soft corn tortillas, shredded pork, hot sauce, cilantro and raw onions. And somehow the combination just clicked right in my mouth and I've been addicted to these tacos ever since. They are closed on Mondays but I've had lunch there at least twice a week for the last 2 months. And a few dinners.

I've even tried raw onions on other things and, while not as good as those tacos, I didn't mind them.

I consider this an important, if a little late, milestone in my developevent as an adult.

so the newest thing I have been consuming for a few months now is breakfast smoothies with fruit, yogurt, ice and freaking vegetables - usually carrots and fresh baby spinach. I get 3 or 4 servings of colorful plants, a serving of protein, a serving of healthy fat and breakfast (my least favorite meal) all done at once!

edit to add - baklava is actually pretty easy to make, but be careful it is densely full of not really nutrition LOL, I mean it is basically tissue thin sheets of white flour, a lot of butter, nuts, sugar and more sugar.

and what not, wash and chop, mix them in appropriate amounts, then seal in small plastic bags, then freeze. Because it was going into a smoothie it did not matter what you froze or how the freezing broke down the fruit or vegetables. Made for a quick smoothie. My favourite spice to add was cardamon. I like coconut milk too. But I was not losing weight. Turns out if you put fruit in an pulverize it your body treats that as a sugary drink and adds fat to your body. So now I eat my fruit whole and the fiber and all slows down how my body processes the sugar, and it doesn't get stored as fat so much.

eating/nutrition it is still an improvement. It helps me get the vegs in. I can go days without eating enough of those. LOL. Protein is not a problem for me, I get plenty and I generally don't eat sweets so my areas to watch are the bready carbs. Mostly I just try to keep the tastiest ones out of the house and if I really really want them I have to go to real effort to get them.
