By the time I joined, I was 53. My wife had already had her first battle with cancer (the second was last year), and I had just had my first big cardiac scare. You never expect it to hit close to home, but sometimes you need look no farther than the nearest mirror to see who's next.
Harry Truman liked to quote a tombstone he had seen in Arizona: "Here lies Jack Williams. He done his damndest."
It's up to every one of us to "do our damndest" while we still can. I try, anyway.

(41,956 posts)I haven't been in the lounge as much lately as I used to be but along with MFM pinboy3niner was what the best online relationships are. He was funny, smart, stimulated me to try to outdo him and respected me when I did (and vice versa, because the mofo was HARD to out-wit).
It won't be the same.
