How do you know if what you see is something worth saying something about, and not a waste of time for the cops? I have a neighbor who was wearing an ankle bracelet when he moved in (I noticed as he was wearing shorts). We encountered each other one day on the sidewalk, and we introduced ourselves. Naturally I googled him, and found out he is apparently a repeat drunk driver.
The ankle bracelet came off after a couple months, and he then began having a lot of visitors knocking on his door. They have to pass my living room window to get to his door, but any interaction at his door is out of my sight and hearing. Some days no one shows up, and other days there are people knocking on his door from 5 A.M. to past midnight. Sometimes they knock on my door by mistake looking for this man.
Whatever the interaction is that takes place usually lasts only a few minutes, and rarely does the visitor enter the apartment. Sometimes the visitor looks like your average person, male or female, under 30 -35. Sometimes they appear to be street people, poorly dressed and carrying their gear, back packs, etc.
He also appears to have some connection with several other residents living in other apartments in the complex.
Other than the frequent visitors knocking on his door for some kind of short interaction I have no proof of any wrong doing. Just suspicion. If he is involved with some illegal activity Id fear him or his friends finding out I said something and seeking revenge.
Recently there was a shooting in our complexs parking lot and a policeman knocked on my door to ask if Id heard anything. (I hadnt) The next day this neighbor commented to me that he noticed a cop knocked on my door, and what did he want.
Any suggestions? Again, I have no proof of illegal activity.
I'd probably try to ignore it but I'm tired of people knocking on my door thinking it's his apartment (which always happens after dark).
I've complained to him but he shrugs it off saying he can't control what door people knock on.

(1,965 posts)As best I could. I had a friend, many years ago, who got on the crack and was selling it to get his own free or for cheap. His house was that way, with "buyers" showing up at all/odd hours and not staying long. That situation went downhill fast, on it's own as I recall.

The police in our neighborhood tells us to call them for everything, even door to door solicitors.
If you don't preempt it, it gets worse.

(34,195 posts)1. He woke me up one night at Midnight. He had some kind of electronic equipment he wanted to sell me.
He said he didnt know what it was, what it did, or how much it was worth ~ but he would sell it to me for $25.
I gave him hell for waking me.
2. He knocked on my door one night at 9 P.M. He said he had 100 pounds of meat he needed to sell.
I told him I wasnt interested.

It sounds like a frightening situation. It's better to be safe than sorry.
