(178 posts)Why YouTube gave me the fabulous Thunderbirds when I was watching SRV. Oh ya, his brother.

(10,419 posts)I have absolutely no rhythm, but whenever I hear that song, my feet and hands start tapping and I go "Bong bong bong bong bong..."

(1,907 posts)My oldest brother was a professional drummer. After hours, days, weeks, months of hearing just the drums I run and hide if I hear it now.

(17,066 posts)Not, strictly speaking, a surfing song. But a nice bit of mid-70s nostalgia.

(54,055 posts)At age 13 or 14 (whatever I was when the song came out), I had spent a LOT more time in New York City (all my grandparents lived there) than I had on the West Coast, and I had never yet been to Hawai'i.
This was the first "surfing" song that I had heard that WASN'T all about riding the waves and parties with beautiful surfers with perfect bodies late into the night. Well, no, I guess actually the second. The FIRST was "Surf Monster" on the Gene Moss album "Dracula's Greatest Hits," but THAT was a different category entirely
Starts about 19:20--

(17,066 posts)Not bad. Not Bobby Pickett, but not bad.

(12,132 posts)but I knew before I even entered the thread I'd be voting for a Dick Dale tune. And I love all those other songs and groups but man, Dick Dale is just the right combination of everything that gets my surf up.
