Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSaw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 this weekend. (No Spoilers)
In 2014, I danced in my seat to "Hooked on a Feeling" and in 2017 I danced to "Come a Little Bit Closer". And while nothing can match watching those a-holes the first time, Guardians 2 was a better overall movie that expanded the Marvel cosmic universe. Standouts among the cast were Kurt Russel (Ego), Zoe Saldana (Gamora) and Michael Rooker (Yondu). If I have one regret, it's that we did not yet get to see Adam Warlock.

(2,541 posts)Looking forward to seeing the second "volume".
The first one was fantastic from beginning to end. The memories the soundtrack brought back while viewing it amazed me.

(16,855 posts)He loved the first one, as did I...I've seen it tons of times but every time "Moonage Daydream" plays I get goosebumps because it's so perfect in that scene!! Sadly, I was on call this weekend and couldn't take him, but we'll make up this week! Can't wait!! FYI...I'm convinced Adam Warlock is in the cocoon in "The Collector's" museum in the first movie!

Baby Groot is fricking adorable.
And they do a really nice job of fleshing out Rocket's character. I felt they did a nice job of "humanizing" him along with reminding us how much of a badass he is. But I like Rocket, so....

(56,828 posts)a lot of fun moments. I don't think it quite captured the magic of the first movie, but it came close.

(12,645 posts)The first was more of a misfit crew/heist film.
This one was an action adventure film with a relationship sub-plot. I'm not mentioning the relationship type so as not to spoil the movie for some, but it reminded me a lot of Empire Strikes Back in more ways than one. This movie is more of a bridge to future movies, exploring the characters and solidifying both the motivation for them "sticking together" and the universe they operate in.
Bridging stories will always be a bit darker and harder to grok than the first movie might be.
I liked it for what it was, it tried very hard not to pummel the audience with the theme, even though the way the story had to move to set up for the next stories, it's a very hard balance to maintain between maintaining the humor and serving the story. For the most part, for me, it worked. And the closing credits were very "throwback" to the early/mid 1980's.
And if you are a Marvel Comics geek, the five credit scenes set up future movies very well.
But let's just say, the ending sequences affected certain members of the audience a bit more than others.
